It was a sad day for the Serra family last Saturday. My husband’s ’67 vw beetle was stolen from the Highland Park area of Los Angeles. The bug has been in my husband’s family for 20 years. His father purchased it as a surprise for Ali’s older brother. And, since Ali’s father’s passing, the brothers vowed to keep it in the family. It really has become a family member and not to mention all the blood, sweat and tears they’ve all put into it. We’re hopeful that it’ll be found soon, but in the meantime, we’re asking all of our California friends to keep their eyes out for it. If you’re not in Cali, but have friends in the area we’d appreciate if you could share these images with them. The support we’ve received from our friends and family has been incredible.

The iphone images below are from the morning Ali and his brother headed down to L.A. in May–such an exciting time. It seems unreal that the bug is gone.

I love that this past year has taken me across the country, meeting and photographing families along the way. I met this beautiful family this past weekend in Arkansas, it was my first time visiting. I fell in love with them instantly. And their charming little town. And the ice cream we got at the end of the session. I’m still thinking about it. You’ll be seeing more of them later, but for now, enjoy this little sneak peek.

I hope you have a lovely day.

Welcome to the new home of Kristie Serra Photography! I wish I could offer you a drink and some chips and salsa, but instead how about some blog posts to catch you up on the last six, okay seven, I know… (ahem) eight months of life. I’m hoping you are loving the new site as much as I am. These days, I am all about simplicity and having everything (website + blog) in one place is as simple as it gets! It’s been a long time coming and let me tell you, it feels great!

So, what have I been up to these last few months? A little bit of everything… a couple of work trips to Tampa, a trip to Denver to shoot a wedding and sessions in Seattle and then we got the news we’ve been waiting for–my hubby was chosen for a summer internship at a BIG animation studio in California. It all happened so fast and before I knew it, it was May and Ali was heading to Los Angeles for the summer. Once my boys were out of school at the end of June, we headed to Phoenix to visit some good friends that had just moved there from Atlanta and then we were off to California! We spent two weeks in L.A. getting in as many hugs as we could, checking out the sights, spending time with some old dear friends and meeting new friends as well. We had solid SUNSHINE for two weeks, actually make that three because we didn’t see a drop of rain in Phoenix either, just crazy temperatures. Um, it’s true, 120 degrees does make you feel like your eyeballs are melting.  The sunshine was fabulous though!

Things that I LOVED about Cali: 1) being together as a family, 2) the sunshine 3) having a good friend in Los Angeles, 4) finally meeting the lovely Rachel and her super sweet family, 5) South Pasadena, 6) Pasadena, 7) Santa Monica and last, but certainly not least 8) having chick-fil-a back in my life. Oh, how I’ve missed that cookies n’ cream milkshake!

Things that I DIDN’T love about Cali: 1) the traffic and 2) saying goodbye.

So, the boys and I hopped back on a plane and headed home to Seattle. That wasn’t easy. My A. has really struggled without his daddy. It breaks my heart. With just a few weeks left of Ali’s internship, we are hopeful that there will be an amazing opportunity waiting around the corner and we will be back together again very soon. I feel it. I found this great quote the other day (I’ve been reading it daily):

Faith is a process of leaping into the abyss not on the basis of any certainty about “where” we shall land, but rather on the belief that we “shall” land.

— Carter Heyward

As tough as it is being apart and despite wanting to pull my hair out a few times, I am so thankful for these last few months with my boys. I will treasure these summer memories always. It’s hard to believe that they will be back in school in less than three weeks. I know I said it last summer too, but where did the time go?

I’ll be heading out of town at the end of the week, but I’ll be sure to post my Tampa Fall/Holiday session dates before I do.

I’ll leave you with some images from California.
