It’s not often that I get to photograph multiple generations, but when given the opportunity, my heart is happy.  It’s my relationship with my mom and gramcracker (aka my grandma) that makes it so near and dear to my heart.

It’s never a dull moment when you bring five cousins, a mom and dad, an aunt, grandparents and a dog together. How can it be? One thing for sure is that we had such a fun morning together. They are truly a lovely bunch and I feel honored to have been able to document some of their time together. It’s these images that tell their story, show their connections and document their family history. I can’t tell you enough how important it is to have images like these. It might not seem like it right at this moment, but years from now when you’re looking back, they’ll be one of your most important treasures. So, if it’s not me taking your photographs or another professional photographer, bring out that camera of yours monthly, learn how to use that handy-dandy self-timer for some impromptu family photographs. You’ll be so glad you did… maybe not today, but in the years to come!

Until next time.

Oh, precious little guy. Just five days new, with his full head of hair. His mommy and daddy beaming with love and pride. Such a beautiful afternoon filled with light and love (and laughs–those mustaches had us all cracking up). It’s these moments that I want my clients to cherish always. They’ll be many amazing moments ahead, but nothing exactly like this. Hug them. Squeeze them. Kiss them. Breath in that sweetness.

Until next time.

Valentine’s Day is my most least favorite holiday. It’s all about love. I just try to get through the day. -A. Serra

And there you have it. Just the sheer mention of Valentine’s Day makes my boys want run in the other direction. So, of course that makes me want to mention it more. It’s a mother’s prerogative, right? I’d like to think so. As they started working on their valentine’s cards for their classmates a couple of weeks ago, I asked them what they loved and this was their responses:

M.:
1) bear (the stuffed animal bear that he’s slept with in the N.I.C.U.)
2) pizza
3) goldfish (he takes after his godmother)
4) wii
5) family
6) friends
7) smiley faces (I love this)
8) legos
9) jesus

A.:
1) beagle (his bunny stuffed animal)
2) matthew (melts my heart)
3) shmeagle (beagle’s bunny brother)
4) wii
5) family
6) friends
7) books
8) corn dogs (if he could live and eat at a carnival for a year, he’d be the happiest kiddo)
9) science
10) jesus
11) wackiness

We guessed for Quigley:
1) fluffy things
2) squirrels
3) the couch
4) the open road
5) things that squeak
6) all dogs–big + small
7) food
8) the dog park

While this might not be my boys’ favorite holiday, I absolutely adore this day. I love LOVE. I’m a hopeless romantic. So, this day is for me. A day to celebrate the ones I love (even if they’re not particularly fond of Valentine’s Day). Bring on the chocolate, the extra hugs + kisses, the heart shaped handmade cards and When Harry Met Sally! I’m ready!

Wishing everyone a day filled with love.

Unitl next time.

Oh, these sweet girls had me at “HELLO!” P. + E. are four months old and already have so much to say. They are adorable and snuggly and are blessed with a loving big brother, three four-legged siblings, who watched over them the entire time I was there, and the most amazing parents. Their mom (Wendy) is the studio owner of Color Me Mine (paint-your-own pottery studio) in Mill Creek, WA and their dad (Michael) is the owner of The Pest Wash in Woodinville, WA. Two places that I just LOVE! It was an honor to spend an afternoon with them this week, capturing the love and joy these beautiful little ones have brought to their home.

Until next time.

Such a fun morning with two of my favorite girls… my dear friend, Erin, and her sweet little one, Maggie. It’s been awhile since I’ve seen Mags. I can’t believe how much she has grown. Things that I just adore about her:
• Her walk, she’s got a wiggle that belongs on the runway.
• Her love for sticks and grass and birds.
• She’s a girl that knows what she wants and how to get it.
• Her giggle, it’s contagious.
• Her curls.
• The passion she puts into singing The Itsy Bitsy Spider, You Are My Sunshine and The Wheels on the Bus!
• Her jacket-putting-on skills. I hope the upside down style catches on!

Really, there isn’t anything that I don’t adore about her! She takes after her four-legged big sister, Gracie!

Until next time.

January was a good month.

We had our first snow fall of the season.

Quigley earned his keep by pulling us around on our sleds.

I baked more in January than I have in my entire life, true story.

My mom celebrated her 60th birthday. We made her banana nut crumb muffins and sang to her over the phone. It’s hard being away from my mom on such special days like those. Recipe HERE.

I vowed to start a monthly tradition of taking our family photo and failed, but there is always February!

My hubby celebrated another birthday. I made him a carrot cake from scratch. It was my biggest baking success to date. Recipe HERE.

We drank lots of cups of hot cocoa and tea to stay warm.

We celebrated Zebra Day with some fun and fabulous friends. In case you want to celebrate next year, it falls on January 31st. We all wore stripes, did a zebra puzzle and ate zebra cookies!

Hope your January was a happy one!

Until next time.
